A stock electric dirt bike usually has one light, at the front. The rear gets a fender and a plate bracket. Owners who ride an adult electric off-road motorcycle on fire roads shared with trucks often start with an electric dirt bike turn signal kit, plus a brake light and tail light.
Picking the LEDs takes ten minutes. The hours go into voltage, connectors and getting a usable brake signal, so that is where this guide spends its time, using Valtinsu adult electric off-road motorcycles as a worked example.

Warning: check pack voltage first The EM-5 Pro charger is rated 67.2V / 5A, and that is roughly what its 60V pack reads when full. A 12V LED on that circuit fails at once. |
What a Lighting Upgrade Includes
Usually six parts. Many kits skip one, and it is normally the one that costs you a weekend.

Brake Light vs Tail Light
Same lamp, two circuits. The tail circuit stays on at low brightness. The brake circuit goes to full brightness when the lever switch closes. Wire colors are not standard across brands, so the kit diagram decides which lead is which.
Integrated Rear Units
Tail, brake and both rear signals in one housing. Clean and compact. The catch is spacing: signals a few inches apart are hard to read from two car lengths back.
Where the Brake Signal Comes From
Most electric dirt bikes have lever sensors that cut motor power. That is a controller signal, not a lamp output. Use a mechanical lever switch or hydraulic pressure switch instead.
How an Electric Dirt Bike Turn Signal Kit Works
Switch, Relay, Lamps
The switch picks a side. The relay makes the flash. The harness carries current to the two lamps on that side.
Why LED Signals Hyper Flash
Old thermal relays expect bulb load. LEDs draw far less, so the relay assumes a dead bulb and flashes fast. An electronic LED relay fixes it, no resistors needed.
Plug and Play vs Universal Kits
Plug and play trades flexibility for fewer mistakes. Universal does the reverse.

When Plug and Play Fits
The Tusk Motorcycle Plug and Play Turn Signal Kit targets the Sur-Ron Light Bee X and Segway. It ships with harness, front signals, an integrated rear unit, relay and switch. Full system, zero splicing.
When Universal Makes Sense
Everything else. A universal amber kit around $59.99 is the starting price, before a converter and any switch or connectors the kit does not include.
The Voltage Problem Most Guides Skip
Pack Voltage vs Accessory Voltage
The controller on an electric dirt bike usually runs at 48V, 60V or 72V. Some bikes add a small 12V accessory tap, while others run the factory headlight straight off the pack. The Valtinsu EM23 is one of the second kind, with a 60V / 5W headlight on its spec sheet, so there is simply no 12V wire on that bike to borrow. Shopping for a bike first? The electric dirt bike collection lists the voltage for every model.
Sizing a DC to DC Converter
Input rating first. It has to clear the full charge voltage, which on the EM-5 Pro means anything above the 67.2V its charger delivers, not the 60V printed on the frame.
Output is simple arithmetic. Four signals, a tail unit and a horn might add up to around 20W, and 20W at 12V is roughly 1.7A, which is why we would happily put a 5A converter on that job and still sleep at night. A fuse goes right at the converter. When one keeps blowing, there is a short somewhere, and a bigger fuse only hides it.

From our workshop Owner questions we see point to power far more than parts. A tapped mystery wire. Three accessories on a converter sized for one. |

Installation Order That Avoids Rework
Route First, Mount Second
Everything goes on the bench first. The new wiring then follows the factory harness, which already clears the chain and the tire. We leave a slack loop at the steering head. Sealed crimp connectors survive pressure washing; tape does not. The EM-5 series is rated IPX6, so new plugs belong away from rear wheel spray.
Test Before the Panels Go Back On
Check tail, brake, left and right on a stand, bars turned fully. Then look from three car lengths in daylight. NHTSA's pre ride checks include the signal indicators.
Do Turn Signals Make It Street Legal?
No. Lighting covers one line of a road conversion.
What the Rules Actually Cover
FMVSS No. 108 covers turn signals, stop lamps and tail lamps on motorcycles. Registration, VIN, insurance, mirrors and plate lights come from state law. Valtinsu sells its bikes for off-road use only, and added lights leave that unchanged.
Why Signals Still Help Off Road
Fire roads carry trucks. Staging areas fill with trailers. NHTSA conspicuity research found added forward lighting may help prevent daytime right of way crashes.

Lighting on Valtinsu Electric Dirt Bikes
The EM-5 with headlight and horn, the 60V EM-5 Pro
and the EM23 list the headlight as optional, and none ship with tail, brake or turn lights. Spares sit in parts and accessories, including the EM5 headlight bar with horn and controller wiring harness. Read your user manual first, because it shows which circuits already carry pack voltage.
|
Tip: buy for the bike you own The plug and play harnesses on the market are cut for Sur-Ron and Segway connectors, so on a Valtinsu you are realistically shopping for a universal 12V kit and a fused converter to go with it. |
Conclusion
Sort out power before anything else, then the brake trigger, and leave the lamps for last since they are the easy part. If someone makes a plug and play kit for your exact bike, that is the shortest route. If not, a universal kit with an LED relay and a converter rated above full charge voltage does the job well. Signals make you easier to read on a busy fire road. Street legal is a separate question.
FAQs
How can I add turn signals to my electric dirt bike?
Most owners go universal. A Sur-Ron or Segway can take a plug and play kit, while most other bikes need four amber LEDs, a switch, an LED relay and a converter that turns 48V or 60V into 12V.
What is the best turn signal kit for an electric dirt bike?
Whichever one was built for your bike. Sur-Ron and Segway owners have the Tusk kit; most other owners end up with a universal amber LED set, and one with an adjustable relay saves a second order later.
What electric dirt bikes have turn signals?
Few from the factory. Off road models almost never have them, though some road focused electric motorcycles do, so the current spec sheet for your model year is the only reliable answer.
Do you need turn signals on an electric dirt bike?
Off road, no law asks for them. Road use is a state matter tied to how the bike is classified, and an off road model with lights added is still an off road model.
What is the best signal light for an electric dirt bike?
Small amber LEDs on rubber stalks. They pull very little current, they flex when a branch hits them, and set wide apart they read clearly from behind.
Can you put turn signals on any bike?
Most of them. A pedal bicycle takes a clip on battery unit. An electric dirt bike needs a wired 12V circuit, so learn the pinout before cutting anything.
Do e-bikes have blinkers?
Some commuter models do. Off road dirt bikes almost never come with them from the factory.
Can you add a brake light to an electric dirt bike?
Yes. The lamp needs its own brake input, triggered by a lever switch or a hydraulic pressure switch. The motor cut off sensor only talks to the controller.
